Up at 5:30 this morning. Long drive to the trail. Got to Burney about 5pm, and left our bounce box at a Hotel. Then drove on to Old Station, the place we stayed at last year while we were sick.

Since Old Station was a place of mostly bad memories, I wasn't sure that I wantted to return, but we did anyway. We talked to the clerk in the store, and he told us the lady that normally fills the water cashe was away this year. On this news, we each bought an extra Gatoraid, to increase our water carring ability to 7 litters for each of us.

Then, off to the Subway caves where we quit last year. We got there about 6:30, and Elliot who was so nice to give us a ride back to the trail dumped us out with our gear and took off back to LA. He has at least a 10 hour drive ahead of him, and he is supposed to go to work tomorrow.

So. Alone, and on the trail at last. Ken and I decided to have dinner, (canned soup), and then hike for a while. We started hiking at 7:00pm. We hiked for about 2 hours. The trail took us to the top of Hat Creek rim -- the dryest segment on the PCT. We carried 14 lbs of water, and 2 days of food, but not our tent -- we left that in the bounce box to save weight.

Boy, hiking came back so fast. Wow. Its fun! And the climb was so easy! Now we are camped with a view of the valley below, and moutians all around. We saw Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen. I feel good.

Elliot. What a great friend. He hiked with us last year, but couldn't get off work this year.
