We finally left the beach house this morning. Last week we had planned to leave on Tuesday, but we quickly realized that we needed at least one day to get ready. But then Ken and I keep working on the software for this auto journal, which took all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday and then we still needed a day to pack. So its Friday and we are finally on our way.

My brother agreed to drive us up to Oregon, about 12 hours. We haven't decided if we are going to stay in Ashland (in a hotel) or start the trail late this afternoon.

My only worry is the condition of my back. Earlier this year I had a significant back injury. For the past two months I have been doing physical theropy and local hikes. Last week I thought I was fully recovered, but after a long bike riide the pain is back. So this hike might be a short one (at least for me).

Another reason that it took an extra day or so to leave is that we finally took a really good look at the map and discovered that there are no good places to resupply along the trail, like the last two years. This ment that we needed to prepare food boxes and mail the boxes ahead.

So, we are in the car, on our way, and really excited.
