On the trail for our first full day.

PCT 2010, Day 2 -- 8/2/10

First Full Day

This is our first full day of hiking. Boy. For our first day we are pretty pleased with ourselves. We hiked almost 18 miles and climbed over 4500 feet. And we took plenty of rests. I even had time to bathe in a river.

These are the kind of days we expected for the second week, not right out of the gate. I hope we can keep it up.

We discovered that the first town is only 35 miles away, not 40 like we planned. Since we are doing so well on the trail we are going to be there in the morning, almost a full day faster than we thought. We took way too much food for this first leg.

The trail was very nice, much better kept than in Oregon. About 50 percent was in the forest. But we popped out for some great views. Later in the day we did some crest walking, much like Northern CA.

One big event was that we got our first view of Mt. Adams, which we will get to travel near in a few days. At different times during the day we could also see Mt. Hood, Mt. Saint Helen, and Mt.Rainer.

Everyone seems to be doing great. Tammy has the beginnings of a big blister and we all have a few sore muscles -- all very minor.

So tomorrow we get to visit out first town. Its a very small town so all we are expecting is lunch and to pick up our resupply box.

Man, am I having fun. I feel great.
