Marie Lakes, Viewed from Selden Pass
Day 10 of JMT Revisited (July 2, 2004)
We planned to get up early (like 6 am) and get over Selden Pass before the weather got bad. Instead we sleep in until 8:00 am. So we didn’t really start hiking until 9:00. Part of the problem was that everything was so wet – we had to hang the tents and bags out to dry.
We were over Selden Pass at 11:00 am, which was fast. Ken got a great picture of all seven of us.
Then we hiked all day. Had lunch at 1:20 pm, and dinner at 5:00 pm. After dinner we continued up towards Evolution Valley. At the top of the switchbacks, right before the entrance to the valley, a large stream has to be crossed by wading across. We did this right before dark, and camped close by the stream, about 2 miles short of our gold of getting to McClure Meadow’s ranger station.
Wes made another great fire – and then bed at about 9:30 pm. Everyone wants to get up early to do Muir Pass before lunch. Night.
