This is the starting line. It is the "Sign" at the trailhead in Yosemite.
We all are looking pretty good, since we now have hiked a total of 44 feet.
The sign reads 211 miles to Mt. Whitney, where the JMT ends. From there
we have to hike down to a pickup point at Whitney Portal, which is another
11 miles. Also add about 20 miles for other sight seeing excursions and
resupply rendezvous, and you get a total of about 240 miles.

Here is Nevada Falls in Yosemite, looking at it from a point on the
trail. There is a footbridge over the top of it that is barely
visible.

This is another view of Nevada Falls with the backside of a mountian that looks
like Half Dome in the distance. It's not Half Dome. Half Dome is much farther
away and much bigger.

We made it to the top of the footbridge from the sign. It took some of us
a little over an hour to make this first 2000' climb. It took me almost
two hours.

We camped about two miles futher up from the footbrige. Notice our
homemade tent in the forground. It weights under 3 lbs and sleeps four.
We use a walking stick for the center pole. The tent has no ground material to save weight.
(We use our ponchos for ground cloth.) Best of all, the tent can be deployed
in about 2 minutes with two people and then you can craw in and fix the
ground inside, out of the rain.
